Who was your most influential teacher? Why?
To protect his privacy, let’s call him Eddie.
Eddie was my first and second grade high school math teacher. Always excellent in teaching. He teaches you the basics first then he levels up to the advance.
At first, I was struggling with algebra, mostly because I was a bad student before. But come second year, I wanted to be good at one thing everyone is bad at, math.
I reviewed all the topics from first year, making sure I master all of them. I made sure I had solid foundation. Starting with integers and their order of operations, assigning a variable, all that jazz.
Day by day, I started showing appreciation to my math teacher. I could not understand for the life of me the concept in books. I love self-studying but the topic has to be introduced first.
Eddie did not hold back. He gives us activity exercises to do at home or in school, but most commonly the latter. I would have one or two mistakes meant to teach me a lesson. I promised myself I would review that right away the moment I got home!
After that, math became my favorite subject until college.
I wonder what Eddie is doing now?
